Lisbon Private Walking Tour
A tour for history buffs
This Lisbon Walking Tour will take you through the oldest streets in Lisbon where you will uncover three millennia of the history of the city.
Starting from Rossio, your official guide takes you through iconic landmarks such as Alfama with its fortress-like cathedral, the baixa post-earthquake downtown area and the Sun Gate viewpoint; offering a glimpse into the Phoenician, Roman, Visigothic, Moorish and medieval legacy.
We will also analyze the role of religion in the Muslim Lisbon (Al-Usbuna), where the three religions of the Book lived side by side. And as in medieval Lisbon, religion permeated all aspects of daily life.
But perhaps most of all, we will experience the river sights, which so defined the greatness of the city, an essential point of communication between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. And the narrow streets, alleyways and architecture, result of several civilizations that lived and traded here.
3 Tasting Stops
As we walk the challenging streets of the Old Lisbon, we make 3 comfort stops where you'll taste some of our specialties. From ginjinha (Portuguese sour cherries liqueur) to pastel de bacalhau (cod fritter), pastel de nata (Portuguese custard tart) or the famous bifana (pork sandwich).
Big Earthquake of Lisbon
And no historical tour of Lisbon is complete without stepping back to Nov 1st 1755 to discover how the Big Earthquake destroyed and reshaped the city.
Lisbon's historic shops
Along the way, we'll discover shops with history. Surviving testimonies of times when a gentleman did not leave the house without a hat, or a lady would not be seen outside without gloves.
