  • Fatima half day tour from Lisbon: Visit the Sanctuary and houses of the seers

Your guide meets you at your hotel in Lisbon for pick up, starting your private half-day tour to Fatima. Along the way (90-minutes trip), you'll hear the Narrative of the Apparitions of Fatima, center of Catholic faith and pilgrimage (traditionally made on foot).

Start with a short stop at a local factory (optional), so you can buy a rosary to be blessed at the Mass, have a coffee or just go to the restroom.

You will visit the Sanctuary with your guide, a sacred site that attracts four million pilgrims every year. There, you will be at the Chapel of the Apparitions - the "heart" of the Shrine of Fatima, where Our Lady talked to the seers - and visit the Basilica.

At the Shrine, you will have the chance to light a candle, drink water from the blessed well and attend Mass. Your guide will also give you free time in the sanctuary for personal discovery.

Then, head to the village of Aljustrel, where you will visit the houses of the Seers - the house where Francisco and Jacinta Marto were born and lived, and the house where Lúcia de Jesus, the youngest of six children, was born and lived. It was also here that the first interrogatories to the seers took place.

Now it’s time to board the van back to your hotel in Lisbon.

History of the Apparitions of Fátima

On May 13rd 1917, three children - Lúcia, Francisco and Jacinta - saw on the top of a holmoak (where the Chapel of Apparitions now stands) "a Lady more brilliant than the sun", from whose hands hung a white rosary.

The Lady told the three shepherd children to pray a lot and she invited them to return during five months, on the 13rd day at that hour. On the 19th of August, the apparition took place at Valinhos because, on the 13rd, the children were taken by the County Administrator.

At the last apparition, on 13rd October, with about 70 thousand people present, the Lady said to them that she was the "Lady of the Rosary" and that a chapel was to be built there in her honor. After the apparition all present witnessed the miracle promised to the children: the sun, resembling a silver disc, could be gazed and, whirling on itself like a wheel of fire, it seemed about to fall upon the earth.
