The History of Apparitions

On May 13 1917, for the first time, the Virgin of Fátima appears to three children-shepherds - Lúcia, Francisco and Jacinta - in Cova da Iria (Fatima).

On a small holm-oak (where now the Chapel of Apparitions is located), the three little shepherds saw a "Lady brighter than the sun", on whose hands hung a white Rosary.

For five months, the apparitions recurred and, on October 13, about 50 thousand people witnessed the miracle of the Sun.

The Sun looked like a silver disk and one could look without difficulty. It began to turn on itself and slid at the sky, reflecting the light on people's faces and clothes. The sun collapsed in a zigzag over the terrified crowd.

Everything lasted ten minutes. Finally, the sun returned to its place and many people noticed that their clothes, soaked by rain, had dried suddenly.

The phenomenon was witnessed by several reporters who went there and who were also witnesses of the Miracle of Fatima.
